Dubai Maritime Museum by Nikolaos Karintzaidis

Ocean Window Dubai Maritime Museum by Nikolaos Karintzaidis Design concept follows the idea that buildings are not simply physical objects, but artifacts with meaning or signs dispersed across some larger social text. The museum itself is an artifact and a vessel that supports the idea of the journey. The perforation of the sloped ceiling reinforces the solemn atmosphere of the deep sea and the large windows offer a contemplative view of the ocean. By optimizing the maritime-themed environment and combining it with breathtaking underwater views, the museum reflects in a sincere manner its function.

Prayer Hall by Nikolaos Karintzaidis

Water Mosque Prayer Hall by Nikolaos Karintzaidis With a sensitive implementation on the site, the building becomes a continuation of the sea through a lifted platform serving as a Prayer Hall that expands towards infinite. Fluid formations refer to the motion of the sea in an effort to connect the Mosque to the surroundings. The building stands out reflecting the nature of its function and physically manifests the philosophy of the Middle Eastern architecture in a contemporary manner. The resulting exterior creates both an iconic addition to the skyline and a reinvention of typology realized in a modern design language.

Water Purification Facility by Nikolaos Karintzaidis

Waterfall Towers Water Purification Facility by Nikolaos Karintzaidis The building transcends location as it reformulates an artificial site that becomes part of a unified natural environment. The limit between the city and nature is defined and intensified by the presence of the dam. Every form relates another, reflecting the symbiotic ordering systems of nature. More particularly in the specific concept, the fusion of landscape and architecture happens with the use of the flow of water as a functional and subsequently an organizational element.

Prayer Hall by Nikolaos Karintzaidis

Light Mosque Prayer Hall by Nikolaos Karintzaidis A flexible building framework that can be easily assembled forms the building’s structure. On this simple structural steel framing, series of fabric elements are hanged in order to define the interior space. Fabrics are distributed following a specific modulation and are used as spatial organization elements, as they allow for the powerful plasticity of the building’s design while responding to specific functional demands. The basically orthogonal prayer space is given a sense of flow from the light cuts, having a direct reference to the effect often used in Islamic architecture.
